September
Gardening Tips:

Plant some mums for beautiful fall color!  They prefer sunny areas and should be planted in well drained soil.

Remove tired summer annuals and fill your garden spaces with frost tolerant annuals such as pansies and ornamental cabbage and kale.

It’s a great time to
divide and transplant perennials
that are crowded from a
full season of growing.
Be sure you “know your plants” because not all perennials need to be divided.

It’s time to stop fertilizing roses.

Early September is the best time to fertilize your lawn.  This is the most important application of the year that will keep it looking healthy and lush.

Re-seed bare or sparse areas
in your lawn.

September is the perfect time to plant trees and shrubs.  Warm days and cool nights will get roots well established to winter-over.

Dear Gardening Friends,

It’s so hard to believe that summer is really over.  So many friends feel the same as I do – where did the time go?  I guess because warm spring weather arrived late and school started in mid-August just added to the feeling that there wasn’t enough time to kick back and enjoy enough lazy summer days.

The good news – FALL IS HERE - with all of the delightful changes that so many of us enjoy!  It’s time to get out your jeans (oh, I hope they still fit), cheer on your favorite football team (go MIZZOU!!!) and spend time outside to enjoy breezy days and cool evenings.

Fall is the perfect time to plant!  If you plant pansies now, they will bloom on and off all winter long, and make another appearance in early spring.  Adding perennials to your garden spaces will give you a head start for next spring.

It’s also the time of the year that we love to plant garden mums. Their beautiful blooms are as colorful as fall leaves.  We began growing our mum crop last April, and now they’re ready for your gardens and containers.  Our selection of colors and pot sizes is great, and we’ll have plenty to choose from for the entire month of September.

When you visit, you will also see the changes inside the store.  It’s full of home decor perfect for the season – and perfect for your home.  We select all of our merchandise with gardeners in mind, so stop by and see what’s new!

Happy Fall Gardening,
